Bach in Schools

Now entering its third season, Bach in Schools is our primary education outreach program. It is a 45-minute presentation that is offered free of charge to elementary school students that focuses on J.S. Bach’s life and music, featuring performers from the Bach Society’s orchestra and professional choir, including a real harpsichord.

The program was designed by music teacher Dawn Denne, and each presentation is led by Bach Society director Rick Erickson. Since its beginning in the 2015–16 academic year, Bach in Schools introduced Johann Sebastian, his music, family, and instruments to over 3,000 children in the Houston area.

To help in this endeavor, we commissioned a tiny new spinet harpsichord by San Antonio builder Gerald Self. The instrument is part of all Bach in Schools presentations, as well as smaller outreach events throughout the year.

Bach in Schools is free to any interested school. Interested in hosting a presentation? Please email Rick Erickson.
